How to resolve a GC719 GOALSYS - GSPTERM FILE FULL condition

The GSPTERM file is used to store PHOENIX/PREFERENCE Terminal IDs (TIDs) and PREFERENCE Printer IDs (PIDs) if you are also running PREFERENCE. There are two situations under which the GSPTERM FILE FULL condition can arise:

First, over time your Terminal IDs may change to a new naming convention and the old IDs may be removed. If the Auto-Terminal ID feature is set to "Y", then new TIDs can automatically be added to the GSPTERM file when the terminal ID connects to PHOENIX. However, the old TID entries still occupy space in the GSPTERM file.

Second, over time the number of Terminal IDs accessing PHOENIX and PREFERENCE may be increasing. To resolve a GSPTERM FILE FULL condition, we recommend the following:

  1. If you are not running PREFERENCE, skip to step 2. below. If you are also running PREFERENCE, run GSPTLDR to print and punch the PID entries (see the PREFERENCE System Utility Guide for use of options "QPRTPID" and "QPUNPID").
  2. Ensure you have the Auto-Terminal ID feature is set to "Y" by following these steps:
    1. sign on as a supervisor
    2. from the type command line enter "signon"
    3. press F6 - Edit Terminal Allocation
    4. check to make sure Auto terminal ID is set to "Y"
  3. With the online system down GSPCLEAR can be run to clear the GSPTERM file only. If the GSPTERM file is actually too small because many new terminals have been added, then create a new larger GSPTERM file when running GSPCLEAR (see the PHOENIX or PREFERENCE System Utility Guide for information on running the GSPCLEAR utility).
  4. If you are also running PREFERENCE, run GSPTLDR to re-add the PID entries punched out (see Step 1. above).
