PHOENIX/PREFERENCE 7.8.0 SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY WITH CICS TRANSACTION SERVER

Dear Customer,

Below is information on software compatibility for our PHOENIX and PREFERENCE software with the CICS Transaction Server.

We currently have three fully supported releases of PHOENIX and PREFERENCE. Those releases are 7.9.1, 7.9.0 and 7.8.0. If you are on one of these releases, there are no known compatibility issues with CICS Transaction Server releases prior to 3.1. If you are upgrading to CICS TS 3.1, there is a required ZAP for PREFERENCE. The tables below identify this change. In addition program definition changes are required. The following tables identify these changes:

Note(*): Support is limited to CICS transactions using a COMMAREA.  Starting with CICS TS 3.1 the COMMAREA 32KB limit was replaces with new Containers and Channels Feature. CICS Transactions that have been updated to use the new Containers and Channels Feature are not yet supported by PHOENIX and PREFERENCE.

Change program definitions to specify EXECKEY=CICS for the following programs:
CBECICS, CBECICSI, CBECICSP and CBEFCTS

Change program definitions to specify EXECKEY=CICS for the following programs:
CBECICSI, CBEFCTS, CBRCIA, CBRCIB, CBRCIC, CBRCID, CBRCIE, CBRCIG, CBRCIGC, CBRCIH, CBRCIP, CBRCIPC and CBRCDZ33

  • Copy program CBRCDZ33 to newname CBRCDZ61 on the CICS LOADLIB

  • Define program CBRCDZ61 to CICS with the same settings as CBRCDZ33

where "61" in the CBRCDZ61 module name corresponds to the CICS release associated with TS 2.1

  • Copy program CBRCDZ33 to newname CBRCDZ62 on the CICS LOADLIB

  • Define program CBRCDZ62 to CICS with the same settings as CBRCDZ33

where "62" in the CBRCDZ62 module name corresponds to the CICS release associated with TS 2.2

  • Copy program CBRCDZ33 to newname CBRCDZ63 on the CICS LOADLIB

  • Define program CBRCDZ63 to CICS with the same settings as CBRCDZ33

where "63" in the CBRCDZ63 module name corresponds to the CICS release associated with TS 2.3

  • Copy program CBRCDZ33 to newname CBRCDZ64 on the CICS LOADLIB

  • Define program CBRCDZ64 to CICS with the same settings as CBRCDZ33

where "64" in the CBRCDZ64 module name corresponds to the CICS release associated with TS 3.1

7 Download from our web site and apply required ZAP S780015 to support CICS TS 3.1. 

Note: Previously listed required ZAP S780014 has been replaced by S780015.  No action is required concerning ZAP S780014 (i.e. you may leave it applied or not apply it).
