PHOENIX/PREFERENCE 7.9.1 Software Compatibility with the CICS Transaction Server

Dear Customer,

Below is information on software compatibility for our PHOENIX and PREFERENCE release 7.9.1 system software with the CICS Transaction Server.

There are no known compatibility issues with CICS Transaction Server releases prior to 3.1.  If you are upgrading to CICS TS 3.1 or a more current release, there is a required ZAP for PREFERENCE.  The tables below identify this change.  In addition program definition changes are required. The following tables identify these changes:

 

CICS TS	PHOENIX 7.9.1 Only

CICS TS	PREFERENCE 7.9.1 Only
All known versions (*)	Perform steps in Procedure 2 below
3.1 and more current	Perform steps in Procedure 3 below

CICS TS	PHOENIX & PREFERENCE 7.9.1
All known versions (*)	Perform steps in Procedures 1 and 2 below
3.1 and more current	Perform steps in Procedure 3 below

Note(*) Support is limited to CICS transactions using a COMMAREA.  Starting with CICS TS 3.1 the COMMAREA 32KB limit was replaces with new Containers and Channels Feature. CICS Transactions that have been updated to use the new Containers and Channels Feature are not yet supported by PHOENIX and PREFERENCE.

Procedures
1	Change program definitions to specify EXECKEY=CICS for the following programs: CBECICS, CBECICSI, CBECICSP and CBEFCTS
2	Change program definitions to specify EXECKEY=CICS for the following programs: CBECICSI, CBEFCTS, CBRCIA, CBRCIB, CBRCIC, CBRCID, CBRCIE, CBRCIG, CBRCIGC, CBRCIH, CBRCIP, CBRCIPC and CBRCDZ33
3	Download from our web site and apply required ZAP S791005 to support CICS TS 3.1 and more current CICS releases.  Note: Previously listed required ZAP S791003 has been replaced by S791005.  No action is required concerning ZAP S791003 (i.e. you may leave it applied or not apply it).
