Important Reminder: Don't Let your PHOENIX/PREFERENCE Code Expire

Prevent system failure due to expired code. Don’t let this happen to you – be sure to plan early. Getting a new authorization code for PHOENIX or PREFERENCE is relatively easy and will safeguard against costly downtime should your code expire. Here are some procedures to make sure your PHOENIX/PREFERENCE system stays up and running:

1.

Find out when your current authorization code expires. You can verify expiration dates by viewing the online supervisor menu (type ‘menu’ at the command line and press Enter):

Fill out the form and fax to (614) 781-7245.

Questions? Call Christie Davis at (614) 781-7270 or send an email to: cdavis@sumtotalsystems.com

* IMPORTANT: According to Christie Davis, account manager for PHOENIX/PREFERENCE at SumTotal Systems, "Many of our customers use an older version of the order form that does not have a field for a customer’s email address." If this is you, be sure to use the latest expiration code request form by making a fresh hard copy from the link above. Also, you may wish to bookmark the link to keep it handy.

Technical Tip: PREFERENCE Screen Capture

Instructions for Capturing a Screen in PREFERENCE

PHOENIX Users: These instructions for the screen capture tip are written for PREFERENCE but can be easily adapted to PHOENIX. In both cases, the objective is the same...to procure an exact copy of an application screen while avoiding the labor intensive task of manual editing.

Why capture an application screen?

“Captured” application screens are used to make exact screen copies within the PREFERENCE editor for creating reference material and for concurrent help rules writing. This procedure is preferable to manual editing because it is less time-consuming and reduces the chance of errors such as misspellings, typos, and missed fields.

How can you differentiate a writer's screen capture session from a help request?

You can list Terminal IDs associated with the screen capture process in the PREFERENCE CAPTURE TID FACILITY. When PREFERENCE receives a help request for a session whose Terminal ID matches a Terminal ID definition in the CAPTURE TID FACILITY Capture table, the terminal session is navigated according to the table definition (i.e. supervisor command line, signon frame or to a specified volume as writer). Once inside the PREFERENCE editor, the screen captured by the screen capture session can be transferred to the PREFERENCE window editor.
